Connecticut State Parks are more than just beautiful backdrops for your weekend hikes and family picnics—they’re living treasures that enrich our communities, boost local economies, and bring joy to millions. With the Restore CT State Parks initiative, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is leading the charge to breathe new life into these beloved public spaces, ensuring they remain vibrant, welcoming, and accessible for all.

Why It Matters
Picture this: sunlit trails winding through peaceful forests, picnic tables ready for gatherings with friends, and historic landmarks telling the stories of our state’s rich past. Connecticut’s state parks do more than just provide a place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life—they elevate our quality of life. They’re places to clear your mind, stretch your legs, and soak in the beauty of nature.

But keeping these parks in tip-top shape requires dedication, care, and investment. Since 2022, over $70 million has been poured into restoring and improving these cherished spaces. The latest $30 million investment approved by the State Bond Commission underscores our commitment to making our parks better than ever. From repairing trails and rebuilding historic landmarks like Heublein Tower at Talcott Mountain State Park to tackling the aftermath of severe flooding, DEEP is working hard so every visitor has a great experience.

More Than Just Parks
When you visit a state park, you’re not just taking a stroll—you may also be giving back to your community. Our parks network welcomes an astounding 17 million visitors each year, contributing to local economies and supporting small businesses that cater to tourists and residents alike. Every trail trekked, stream fished, campsite booked, and ice cream cone bought at a park-adjacent stand strengthens Connecticut’s local economies.

A Boost for Your Mind and Body

Beyond economic benefits, the value of state parks for personal well-being cannot be overstated. Research shows that time spent outdoors reduces stress, improves mental health, and boosts physical fitness. Whether you’re out for a scenic bike ride or simply soaking up the sun, our parks provide a critical outlet for improving both mind and body.

Building for the Future
We’re not just fixing what’s broken; we’re building for the future. DEEP’s restoration projects go hand-in-hand with creating better facilities, making parks more accessible to everyone, and enhancing the experiences that keep you coming back. Upgrades like new ADA-accessible trails, improved campgrounds, and revitalized historical sites ensure everyone can enjoy our parks, regardless of age or ability.

Since the pandemic, our parks have seen record-breaking visitor numbers—a testament to just how much they mean to the people of Connecticut. With improved infrastructure and expanded amenities, our parks are poised to continue breaking records, welcoming families, adventurers, history buffs, and anyone looking for a moment of peace.

A Win for Tourism
Connecticut’s state parks are integral to Connecticut Tourism. They attract visitors from near and far, making our state a destination of choice for nature lovers and adventurers. By investing in our parks, we’re strengthening their appeal and ensuring they remain vibrant assets that put our state on the map.

Stewardship and Dedication
At its heart, the Restore CT State Parks initiative reflects DEEP’s dedication to being a responsible steward of these incredible places. By enhancing and maintaining our public spaces, we’re investing in a better quality of life for every resident and every visitor. So the next time you find yourself exploring a quiet trail, marveling at a historic landmark, or simply enjoying a sunny day outdoors, remember: every step you take is part of something bigger. Together, we’re keeping Connecticut’s natural wonders alive and thriving for generations to come.
